Saturday Pennant Results 29th February 2020
Good wins for the firsts and seconds but a loss for the thirds.
Yarra Glen 1 vs Beaumaris 1 played at Yarra Glen.
The first side had massive home win against Beaumaris who are one place above on the ladder. Conditions were near perfect and Yarra Glen made the most of it to gain a resounding 40 shot win and gain 16 points. The final result was 95 shots to 55.
Paul Tirant’s rink won by 29 shots to 5, Mattie O’Brien’s rink won 25 shots to 8, Nick Milner’s rink won 21 shots to 16 and the only losing rink was Geoffrey Senior’s, losing 20 shots to 26 against Beaumaris’s formidable player/coach, Matthew Kurta.
Best on green was Paul Tirant, well done Spyda. Congratulations to the top side, they move up to 5th on the ladder with 148 points, just three points behind the fourth placed Beaumaris. A win next week could put Yarra Glen into the finals.
Division 3 Section 5
Yarra Glen 2 vs Mooroolbark 3, Played at Mooroolbark
The second side played away against Mooroolbark on their excellent grass green and came home with a big 33 shot win and 16 points. It was a lovely sunny day and Yarra Glen settled in quickly, gained the lead and steadily increased it throughout the day. The final score was 95 shots to 62.
Wayne Edwards’ rink won by 26 shots to 11, Gerald O’Brien’s rink won 23 to 11, Gordy Baker’s rink won 27 to 16 and Peter Leonard’s was the losing rink, going down 19 to 24.
Well done the seconds – a very welcome win. Best on Green was Wayne Edwards – well done Plumber! The second side remain 6th on the ladder with 149 points.
Division 6 section 5
Yarra Glen 3 vs Upwey/Tacoma 3, played at Upwey/Tacoma
The third side had a tough away match against the skilful Upwey/Tacoma side. The sunny conditions failed to lift Yarra Glen’s game and they lost by 23 shots. Yarra Glen won on one rink, drew on one rink, lost on the other two and brought home 3 points.
Lynnie Baker’s rink was the winner by 20 shots to 19, Andrew Thurkle’s rink drew 21 all, Darren Macmenaman’s rink lost 16 shots to 25 and Tony Anderson’s rink lost 13 to 28.
Hard luck the thirds. Yarra Glen 3 dropped to 6th place on the ladder with 145 points but with a win next week could still possible get into the finals. Best on green was Darren Macmenaman.
